SHELLSHOCKED Burnley could ring the changes for tonight's Auto Windscreens Shield tie against Chester City at Turf Moor.

With the Clarets requiring a draw to reach the second round of the competition, manager Jimmy Mullen was considering the option of "resting" a couple of senior faces with Friday's FA Cup first round tie against Walsall in mind.

Winger Ted McMinn is already rated doubtful tonight with the sore toe which forced him out of Saturday's 4-3 home defeat to Notts County.

While in attack, the Burnley chief was considering whether to hand a start to young striker Andy Cooke, a scorer at the weekend.

"This is an extremely busy week for us and I may bring in a couple of fresh faces," confirmed Mullen.

"At the same time though it is very important that we do well in this competition because of the possible financial rewards in the latter part of the competition.

"The lads were very disappointed to lose their unbeaten home record to Notts County. They can't wait to get out there against Chester and get that result out of their system." A win tonight would leave Burnley level on points with Rotherham United at the top of the Northern Section, Group Two.

Then, depending on goal difference, the group winners will be awarded home advantage in round two.

Chester are buzzing along in Division Three with former West Brom striker Cyrille Regis leading the promotion charge at the Deva Stadium.

Mullen choose from: Beresford, Parkinson, Vinnicombe, Winstanley, Swan, Hoyland, Harrison, McDonald, Eyres, Nogan, McMinn, Cooke, Francis, Randall, Russell (GK).

Chester's squad is: Stewart, Whelan, Burnham, Priest, Jackson, Alsford, Richardson, Shelton, Regis, Milner, Noteman, Jenkins, Chambers, Rimmer.

In a bid to attract more fans through the turnstiles tonight, Burnley have cut admission prices for the Bob Lord and Cricket Field Stands to £5, (£2 concessions). The Bee Hole terrace WILL not be open.

Walsall have signed Derek Mountfield, the 33-year-old former Aston Villa, Wolves and Everton defender who spent the last month with Third Division Northampton. But he will not be eligible for FA Cup first round tie at Turf Moor.

Brighton and Hove Albion's hopes of sharing the ground of Beazer Homes League club league Crawley Town next season have been dashed by the local council. The struggling Seagulls will now move to Portsmouth's Fratton Park if attempts to extend their life at the Goldstone Ground fail.

The cash-strapped Second Division club are selling the Goldstone to developers Chartwell but hope a deal can be worked out allowing them to stay for one more season.
