READ will give an untried teenager his bow in tomorrow's Vaux Ribblesdale Cricket League's big match against Edenfield.

Seventeen-year-old slow left arm bowler Andrew Whittaker is handed his senior debut as Malcolm Heyworth is unavailable for the match between teams who have both won their opening two matches.

And Read chairman Wilf Woodhouse stressed his faith in the club's youngsters, saying: "If they do well, then we will give them a chance in the first team.

"Andrew only started playing cricket seriously in the last couple of years but he has shown a lot of promise in the seconds and thirds.

"We believe we have a better team this season than we have had for some time."

Great Harwood, tipped to be strong challengers this season, face a big test after losing to Baxenden last weekend.

They are at home to a Barnoldswick side who have won both their opening matches, with professional James Peterson in good form.

Ribblesdale Wanderers are the other side with two wins to their credit but their credentials will be tested by reigning champions Padiham at Church Meadow.

Oswaldtwistle Immanuel include Scotland B all-rounder Rajith Suresh, who played with pro Peter Gardiner at Stenhousmuir.

And Earby will no doubt be quaking in their boots to discover that Lancashire Evening Telegraph sports editor and occasional bowler Neil Bramwell has been given an afternoon off to make his Cherry Tree comeback after three years out through injury!

There should be plenty of runs on offer at Applegarth tomorrow...

Tomorrow's fixtures are: Baxenden v Settle, Blackburn N v Clitheroe, Earby v Cherry Tree, Gt Harwood v Barnoldswick, Read v Edenfield, Ribblesdale W v Padiham, Whalley v Osw Immanuel.
