AUSTRALIAN Shawn Flegler has been signed by Clitheroe Cricket Club as professional for the 1999 Jennings Ribblesdale League season.

Flegler, a 27-year-old Queenslander, is no stranger to English league cricket, having played for Lowerhouse in the Lancashire League.

He has made several appearances for Victoria State after moving from Queensland. Last December he played against England and has also represented Victoria against South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania twice.

The all-rounder will replace Jonathan Fielding, who, after four seasons at Chatburn Road, has moved to Walshaw in the Bolton and District Association.

Clitheroe Cricket chairman John Coulter commented: "I think we have done very well in signing a player of his undoubted ability."

Clitheroe have home draws in both the Abbot Ale and LCB Cups. Lytham will visit Chatburn Road on April 25 in the Abbot Ale.

If Clitheroe win then they will face Leyland Daf or Southport and Birkdale in round two.

Bolton League side Heaton, in the LCB Cup round one, are the visitors on Sunday, May 16. In the second round the winners will visit either Ormskirk or Netherfield.

Clitheroe will entertain Walshaw in a friendly on Saturday, April 11 and their seconds will visit Leyland on either Saturday, April 10 or the following day.
