BURNLEY Cricket Club are on the look-out for new players to boost their prospects going into the new Transco Lancashire League season.

The Turf Moor outfit struggled last summer and has now lost the services of Phil Edmondson to Baxenden, John Pickup to Barnoldswick and Chris Swift to neighbours Lowerhouse.

Captain Andy McLeod and promising young seamer Steve Holden are also set to miss the start of the campaign with injuries.

The club is therefore on the look-out for reinforcements to add to a line-up bolstered by the return of free-scoring professional Dale Benkenstein, who is set to lead Burnley until McLeod's return following knee trouble.

"We have got some excellent young players under 20 and some older players and we are looking for one or two reasonably experienced ones to create a bit of competition for places," said Trevor Pickup, chairman of the cricket committe at Turf Moor.

Burnley have pre-season friendlies away to Netherfield on Saturday and at home to the Lancashire Federation under-19 side on Sunday.
