CHORLEY Harriers have recently held their Annual Dinner and Awards Evening. Winner of the Road Grand Prix Series was Ian Crabtree with Malc Christie winning the Fell Series. Ladies Fell Series was won by Janet Chaplin while the Performance of the Year Award was presented to Karl Pittendreigh for his continual improvement over the fells. The Committee Cup went to Chris Lane and Paul Swindells for their work on the Club website www.chorleyharriers.co.uk.

John's race

THERE will be a one-off fell race held in John Taylor's memory on Sunday February 9. Bingley Harrier John was a frequent racer in our area having won the Great Hameldon Hill Race in Accrington as recently as May.

The England International died in August at the age of 33 of cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle disease. The race will simply be called John's Run and the foundation set up in his name will benefit.

It was set up to create awareness in young athletes so they can make sure they get regular health checks. The race will be off Penistone Hill near Haworth and will be six miles long with 900 feet of ascent.

Christmas relay

DARWEN DASHERS are holding the Christmas Relay on Saturday December 28 at noon. With entry open to members and friends it starts from Hollins Grove Liberal Club. Teams of four must include one junior and one woman.

Boys are winners

CHORLEY HARRIERS Under 15 Boys were the winning team in the final South East Lancs Cross Country Meeting of the season at Oldham.

Andrew Thompson took fourth place with Chris Greenbank fifth and Ben Illingworth sixth.

The result meant Andy and Chris shared third place in the final league standings. Senior Sarah Scarrott gained her best result of the season, second, and with four top five finishes took second in the league.

Katie Ingram was second over the season in the Under 20s while Chorley AC's Vicky Snape could afford to miss the final fixture having won the Under 17 title already thanks to her three victories.

Tickets availablity

THERE are still tickets left for the World Indoor Athletics Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham from Friday March 14 to Sunday March 16. Billed as the most significant athletics event to be staged in this country since the 1948 Olympics, more than 500 competitors from 140 countries will take part. What's On

ROSSENDALE HARRIERS will be holding their Annual Handicap for members on Sunday morning. It starts at 11am on Sunday from Marl Pits Sport Centre in Rawtenstall. All juniors will win a present and fancy dress is encouraged. Juniors will run two miles and seniors four miles.

Sunday morning is Chorley Harriers annual handicap races starting at Parkland School 10.30am. Fancy Dress not an option - it is a must. Proceeds going to Derian House. Members and families all welcome followed by a presentation at Chorley Cricket Club.

The Stoop Fell Race on Sunday has a full programme of junior and senior races. Under 9s, Under 12s and Under 14s run a mile starting at 10.30am, Under 16s follow a two mile course also at 10.30am. The Seniors start at 11.30am over a five mile course which includes 800 feet of ascent. Venue is Penistone Hill Country Park near Haworth.

The 4m/750ft Whinberry Naze Dash is Rossendale Harriers' traditional Boxing Day offering. It starts at 11.30am from Marl Pits, Newchurch Road, Rawtenstall. With Father Christmas in attendance handing out Smarties fancy dress is welcome.

Red Rose Road Runners are promoting their Annual Boxing Day 10K Road Race. Registration and presentation are in The Crofters Arms, Leyland Lane, Leyland with the race starting and finishing in Worden Park. The main race is at 10.45am and there is a 1.5 mile Fun Run at 10am.

The Festive 4K Fun Run is on Friday 27 December. Organisers Lancaster and Morecambe AC are starting the event from Lancaster Moor Hospital Sports and Social Club at 11am.
