A COMPREHENSIVE home victory over Farnworth has fired Greenmount to the top of the Bolton League table.

The villagers declaration, six overs short of their allotted fifty, was certainly decisive as they beat the visitors with just three overs remaining.

Keeping up their early season high-scoring record, they cracked a fine 280 for 5 with Indian professional Nishit Shetty blasting his second 'ton' of the campaign with 107.

He shared in a 186 run partnership with the evergreen Gary Chadwick who hit 83.

Skipper Mark Fallon also made a telling contribution with an unbeaten 46.

Despite a half century from Paul Grundy, Farnworth were never in the hunt and were all out for 173.

Mark Stewart was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 43 while Shetty took 3 for 52 and youngster Stuart Leach 2 for 44.

Meanwhile club officials were expecting to learn today whether they would be reinstated into the Lancashire Knockout competition.

A meeting of the Lancashire Cricket Board was being held last night to discuss Huyton's decision to play Kiwi Kevin Murphy in the two club's first round clash two weeks ago.

Competition rules state that overseas amateurs are not allowed to play in the competition if a club has a professional.

It's a grey area but Lancashire Cricket Board chairman Neil Girvin believes Murphy qualifies under the expatriate rule.

However, the full LCB committee were to review Neil's interpretation at the meeting.
