IT proved to be a successful weekend for Bury's youngsters in the Connexions Greater Manchester Youth Games.

The talented Bury squad made the short trip to Bolton to take part in a wide range of sports encompassing ages 11-17 and including both boys and girls.

Around 4,500 young people came together from across Greater Manchester to represent their borough in 15 different sports and everyone did themselves proud.

It was a golden return for the Under-14 Girls Hockey team and the Athletics team as they came out winners in their respective disciplines.

The Under-13 Girls Cricket side set the ball rolling by coming third on Saturday before further success followed for another female Cricket team - this time the Under-15's.

Bury came third in the Under-13's Female Basketball and also came in the bronze medal place in the Aquathlon.

The Boys Under-12's Hockey side picked up a silver medal to cap a productive weekend for the Bury camp.

The competitions drew record breaking crowds with 6,000 spectators cheering on the young hopefuls over the two days.

Key sports included athletics with spectators lining the track to catch a glimpse of the action and basketball where people were queuing at the door.
