The warnings cover products contaminated with glass, faulty handbags and hairdryers that risk electric shock.

What is a product recall?

When a problem is uncovered with an item, products can either be withdrawn from store shelves or recalled from shoppers.

A withdrawal removes unsold stock from retail display, while a recall asks customers who already purchased the product to return it.

Anyone who has purchased a recalled product should stop using it immediately and follow the retailer's instructions to claim a full refund.
