A major twist on Thursday (October 29) night's episode of Celebrity Traitors has viewers calling the latest series "the worst".
Comedian James Acaster revealed himself as a Traitor during the penultimate episode of Celebrity Traitors (series two).
The admission came during Thursday's roundtable and led to Acaster’s banishment from the castle in a series-defining moment.
He told fellow contestants: "I just want to explain my situation.
"I was made a traitor without wanting to be.
"I’ve had a unique experience on this that no one’s had before, where I wanted to be a faithful, and that’s all I’ve wanted to be.
"I couldn’t just go, 'guys it’s me, vote for me,' but that’s all I can do really."
Acaster, 41, explained that he had deliberately drawn attention to the perfume bottles used in the 'murder' of Ross Kemp.
After receiving the most votes, he said: "When I came into this experience, I told Claudia (Winkleman, the show’s presenter) that all I wanted to be was a faithful, and all I wanted to do is go around this castle and try and help the faithfuls as much as possible catching traitors.
"I’m really proud to say that’s what I’ve been able to do, under the circumstances. I am, reluctantly, a traitor."
easily the most unprecedented twist in traitors history and in the end james got to play the game he wanted to all along 🥺 #celebritytraitors https://t.co/GzUNd9Pzd6

In a cutaway interview, Acaster added: "I’m glad that I was so faithful, that I couldn’t make it to the end as a traitor."
He became the second celebrity to reveal their Traitor status this series, following Richard E Grant, who outed himself shortly after being chosen and was subsequently banished.
Earlier in the episode, Sharon Rooney was 'murdered' and Joanne McNally was banished from the castle.
Viewers label new series of Celebrity Traitors "the worst" after James Acaster reveal
Many viewers took to social media to voice their disappointment with Acaster’s reveal, with some calling this "the worst" series yet.
One fan, posting on X (formerly Twitter), said: "Well, that’s celebrity traitors ruined."
Another commented: "Spineless celebrity spoiling the whole essence of the programme.
"He was getting banished anyway. But to just blurt it out is unforgivable.
"Love Traitors but this is the worst of all the series by a long way."

A third viewer said: "This has been the worst celebrity traitors ever.
"First Grant and now Acaster.
"Think this might just have signalled the end of the show."
However, not all fans were critical.
Some found Acaster’s honesty "endearing" and praised his moral stance.
One Reddit user wrote: "It was amazing! Love James Acastor even more than before!
"Also a completely valid way to throw a bit of water on the fire for Kenny and Maya."
Another said: "Honestly, there’s something incredibly endearing about him being such an honest person he was wrestling with lying even if it’s for charity.
"Incredible morals tbh."
