A junction of the M65 will be closed overnight for six days next week, as part of the improvements to the carriageway.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has confirmed that the overnight closures will start on the B6232 between Guide Interchange and the junction of Haslingden Road.
The road will be closed on weeknights from Monday, March 2, until Monday, March 9.
There will be no closures on Saturday or Sunday, March 7 and 8.
Closures will be in place from 9pm to 5am, and clearly signed diversions will be in place.
These closures are necessary to allow new drainage to be installed to begin the widening of this section of road.
A full closure has been deemed essential as to ensure the safety of all road users and the contractors on site, and is being undertaken overnight to minimise disruption to daytime traffic.
Essential access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
A Blackburn with Darwen spokesperson said: “The upgrades have been carefully coordinated with National Highways, the Council’s highways team, emergency services, and Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. These closures are part of millions of pounds of new investment to improve the motorway junction, making it easier for you to get around by reducing traffic and air pollution too.”

The upgrades agreed by National Highways include:
- widening the M65 eastbound exit slip from two to three lanes
- widening the M65 eastbound entry slip to create a two-lane entry
- reallocating the M65 westbound exit slip so both lanes can turn right towards Blackburn
- widening the M65 westbound entry slip to create a two-lane entry
- widening the Guide Road eastbound approach to three lanes
- widening the Haslingden Road westbound approach to three lanes
- amending and widening the roundabout to three lanes
- introducing new signal controls – linked to the adjacent Guide junction – to improve traffic flow
