Motorists have been warned of delays of up to 30 minutes after two lanes of the M6 closed. This is the second time of day that the stretch of road has been closed.

Lanes one and two, of three, are closed on the M6 northbound. This is between junction 28, Clayton-le-Woods, and junction 29, of the M65.

National Highways said this is due to a “carriageway defect”. Emergency repairs are taking place.

There is heavy congestion on approach with warnings of 30 minute delays.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Lanes one and two (of three) are closed on the M6 northbound between J28 (Clayton-Le-Woods) and J29 (M65) due to a carriageway defect. Emergency repairs are now taking place.

“There is heavy congestion on approach with 30 minute delays.”

The same stretch of road was closed this morning, at around 7am.

Lane two and three were closed on the M6 northbound between junction 28 and junction 29.
