Police closed several roads around Lancashire last night (January 23) as Storm Jocelyn caused trees to fall.

At around 11pm, police announced they would be closing Whalley Road in Read, due to a fallen tree.

At the time of writing, it is understood that the road is still closed.

A police spokesperson said: “Good evening we are currently dealing with a road closure on Whalley Road at Read by Devil's Elbow due to a fallen tree.

“We are working with the council to get this removed as soon as possible. Please avoid the area whilst we clear this.”

Garstang Road, from the Marriott to James Towers Way, was closed at around midnight for the same reason.

Officers said it was not safe, at the time, to clear the tree due to the bad weather.

A police spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with a road closure on Garstang Road outside ambulance HQ due to a fallen tree.

“We have had to close the road from outside the Marriott to James Towers Way. At the moment it is not safe to clear the tree due to the weather. Please avoid the area.”
