Temperatures are set to plunge as low as -5°C today (January 17) in Blackburn and even colder in other parts of East Lancashire.
A Met Office weather warning for ice and snow is in force across the whole county. Commuters have been warned that a mixture of sleet, snow and ice could cause travel disruption.
There is a small chance that untreated pavements and cycle paths become impassable and that slips and falls may cause injuries.
Drivers have also been warned to expect travel delays.
While no more snow is in the forecast for today, it is still set to remain cold with lows of -5 °C forecast in Blackburn and Burnley.
In Rossendale and Hyndburn and Clitheroe temperatures could drop to -7°C.

People in Pendle have been told to expect lows of -7°C.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has a cold health alert in force for England, which highlights the possibility of significant impacts for the health and the social care sector.
Dr Agostinho Sousa, head of extreme events and health protection at UKHSA, said: “The temperatures we will see can rapidly have a serious impact on the health of those over the age of 65 and those with pre-existing health conditions as it increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and chest infections. It is therefore vital to check in on friends, family and neighbours to ensure they are well prepared for the cold weather this week.”
