A dog walking business is looking to improve and upgrade their services with the introduction of a dog exercise park.

The plans have been submitted to Ribble Valley Borough Council by Imogen Dawson, from Clitheroe, for a site in the nearby village of Newton-in-Bowland, opposite the Parkers Arms pub.

Ms Dawson says the demand for her services has increased and since there are only so many walks she can do in a day with a safe number of dogs, she now wants a secure field where they can exercise and play freely.

She says current customers are supportive and excited about the venture and think it will be more fulfilling for their dogs, being able to exercise off-lead in a safe environment.

A design and access statement submitted to Ribble Valley Borough Council said: “To house the dogs when needed, a single dog shelter facility is proposed. This dog shelter will be an 18x12 foot structure.

“The appearance of the site will be mostly unchanged, with only the addition of the proposed small dog shelter, housing 10 dogs.

“The materials used for the shelter will be natural and will compliment the rural/agricultural feel of the site.

“The access to the land will continue to be made from the private track off Hallgate Hill Road. The proposed will not affect the existing access in any way.

“The site is within a rural location with some dwellings around but none in the near vicinity. The proposed height/size of the dog shelter is small and will have no impact on the surroundings.”

The plans were registered with the council on December 13.
