The elusive Darwen Grinch has been spotted in town again – have you seen him on your travels?
The Grinch, whose real identity is a mystery, takes to the streets of Darwen every Christmas and so far he has been spotted at Darwen Tower and in Sunnyhurst Wood.
He is set to attend several events this year, including a school fayre and a skate park’s Christmas light switch on.
Today (Saturday, December 9) the Darwen Grinch was spotted at Bespoke Gifts & Home Decor on Bolton Road.
He was handing out presents and posing for pictures with local children throughout the day.
The owner of Bespoke Gifts & Home Decor said: "It's nice to spread some cheer in the local area and we are lucky to have the Grinch in store today as he is very busy with other events and his own family."
The Grinch, a fictional character created by children's author Dr. Seuss who hated Christmas so much he stole it, only to have his views changed upon seeing the Christmas spirit in Whoville, has become a local celebrity in Darwen and pictures emerge of him each year.
Parents could book a slot at Bespoke Gifts & Home Decor for their children to meet the Darwen Grinch, and all slots had been booked.
The store claims to sell 'gifts for all occasions' with beauty, cosmetic and personal care themes.
Debra Duckett, who describes herself as the Darwen Grinch’s manager, says his appearance has become a Christmas tradition in the town.
She said: “The reaction he receives is overwhelming. Kids will wave and take photographs with him.”
Debra said he does this each year to spread festive cheer.
Last year, there was even a campaign for him to turn on the Darwen Christmas lights.
The Grinch's past events include the Christmas light switch on at Junction 4 Skatepark and Darwen Aldridge Community Academy Christmas Fayre.
Debra continued: “He does this from his heart and not for any other reason. He just wants to spread some Christmas cheer."
