The M65 was closed for around three hours early this morning due to a police incident.

At around 3.25am today (September 5), National Highways advised motorists that the M65 eastbound carriageway was closed.

The closure was in place between junction 10 and junction 11 near Burnley, causing delays on the motorway. Emergency services were at the scene of the police led incident after a man in his 30s fell from a bridge.

Motorists were advised that the road was likely to remain closed for some time so should use alternative routes to avoid delays.

At 6.40am, the road reopened and the scene was cleared.

A spokesperson for National Highways North West said: “The M65 has reopened eastbound between J10 and J11 near Burnley following an  earlier police led incident.

“Residual delays have cleared and traffic is flowing freely.

“Thanks for your patience Lancashire.”

Lancashire Police have been contacted for more information about the nature of the incident.
