A Blackburn Rovers fan suffered a head injury at the Carabao Cup game last night at WEst Ham United.

A further two Rovers fans were also arrested for a racist incident at the match at the London Stadium

It marred what was a famous night for Rovers as the young side dumped the struggling Premier League outfit out of the cup 10-9 on penalties.

The game had finished 2-2 and went straight to a shoot-out. Jack Vale opened the scoring for Rovers, before Pablo Fornals and Michail Antonio put the Hammers in the lead.

Ben Brereton-Diaz then equalised late in the game, before it went to penalties. Both teams were flawless in their first nine attempts, with Jake Garrett making it a perfect 10 for Rovers before Angelo Ogbonna hit the crossbar for West Ham, sending Rovers through to the next round.

Police said the Rovers supporter received ‘a large gash to his head’ after being struck by an item. A suspect was identified and arrested for throwing the item and assault.

In a separate incident a West Ham fan was reported for throwing a vape.

Two Blackburn fans were also arrested for a racist incident, while a West Ham fan was arrested for going onto pitch, and two home and two away supporters were dealt with for possession of drugs.

PC Andy Sheldon who runs the Met Police at West Ham Utd FC, said: "Again at the end of a game, I'm not tweeting about football but about morons who think it acceptable to throw items from both sides.

"Why do some fans think its OK? Do you want a stadium where you have to leave ALL items at the turnstiles Including coins, lighters, phones, vapes.”

Rovers, who currently sit second in the EFL Championship, will head into the fourth round of the League Cup after Wednesday's famous win, and on Sunday comes the East Lancashire derby, the first in the league in six years, in a first versus second clash with Burnley at Turf Moor, with the victor heading into the mini-World Cup break as league leaders.
