Rovers are through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2011/12.

A first win over Premier League opposition since 2015 saw them into the hat for the fourth round draw which takes place tonight.

Having beaten League Two opposition in the first two rounds, overcoming Hartlepool United and Bradford City, they beat West Ham United 10-9 on penalties after the two sides drew 2-2 in 90 minutes at the London Stadium.

There are now only 10 Premier League sides left in the draw which takes place this evening.

It will follow the final third round tie between Manchester United and Aston Villa (8pm).

Ties will be played the week commencing Monday, December 19, which will be only a matter of days after the World Cup final, and ahead of the Premier League restart on Boxing Day.

For Rovers it will come after the trip to Norwich City on December 17 and the Boxing Day game at Sunderland.

Six of the 16 third round ties were decided by penalties, with no extra time in the competition.

The lowest ranked team in the competition are Gillingham, 22nd in League Two, after they beat Premier League side Brentford on penalties.

Charlton Athletic, Lincoln City and MK Dons are the three League One sides left in the draw, while Rovers and Burnley, who beat Crawley Town 3-1 on Tuesday night, are the only remaining Championship sides following Bristol City’s defeat to Charlton Athletic.

Last season’s beaten finalists Chelsea and 2021 runners-up Tottenham were both dumped out of the competition on Wednesday night, while Premier League leaders Arsenal were also eliminated.

The remaining teams are: Charlton, Lincoln City, Bournemouth, MK Dons, Leicester City, Burnley, Gillingham, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Brighton, Southampton, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United/Aston Villa.
