An East Lancashire pub reopened this week after a month-long refurbishment.

The Acorn in Accrington, formerly known as The Brickworks, welcomed customers back on Monday (October 24) after a massive £400,000 update.

The Hyndburn Road pub has a new name and aesthetic and aims to bring a modern take on the traditional community pub

The completely new look includes a newly designed bar, new soft furnishings, renovated beer garden and social area, as well as the introduction of a new menu.

The investment has created 15 new jobs for the area in addition to the current team.

The social spaces provide comfortable and relaxed seating areas alongside a pool table and darts space.

General manager, Hannah Collins, worked at the pub in 2015 as an assistant manager and is thrilled to be making a return.

She has been working for Marston’s for seven years and has loved watching the pub transform and recruiting her new team members.

Hannah and her team partnered with local charity Community Solutions, which aims to combat social isolation and will be working with the pub on activities throughout the year, to celebrate the opening.

Rachel Bury, a representative of the charity, made an appearance as a VIP alongside some of the charity’s volunteers.

Hannah said: “This is such an exciting moment for us. We’ve got a new look, a new name and great new facilities for the community. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in to see the transformation we’ve undergone.

“We’re looking to give the town a real hub and ultimately a second home for everyone to relax, see friends and soak in the atmosphere.

“We are a pub for everyone so whether you’re looking to enjoy one of our great pub classics menu in our dining area or just pop down for a drink we’ll be here to offer you what you want.”

Over the next few months Hannah has organised a number of events and performances starting on Friday with a David Bowie tribute, Saturday will see a Halloween disco for children and families in the day (3pm to 8.30pm), followed by an adults-only Halloween event from 8.30pm until closing.

There is also a full grill menu, as well as pub classics and curries and an introduction of new drinks on offer including new cocktails.
