The start of the new football season in Blackburn has been marred by a second alleged incident of racism in a week.

Mill Hill FC has said it has suspended a player following an incident during a game last week against Crompton FC.

In a game last Wednesday (August 17) a player for Mill Hill FC allegedly racially abused a Crompton FC player on the pitch.

It's the second report of alleged racism during football matches in the town as the season gets underway; more allegations came at the weekend in a game blighted by incidents of off-the-ball violence.

After the game, Crompton FC tweeted: "Absolutely thrilling match which saw us edge out on top. Each player stood up and put a shift in.

"Shame about the idiot number 10 calling us "P***s" all game. Makes the win even sweeter.”

Mill Hill FC responded to the tweet an hour and a half later, saying: “Great game good team and well deserved result on the night.

"I don’t condone what may have been said but if you're going to comment at least accept your people also came out with derogatory remarks, and yes I did hear it; two sides to every story see you in the return.”

The Blackburn football club released a statement on Saturday, August 20 addressing the alleged incident of racism.

The statement said: “With reference to an incident that occurred on Wednesday night during a match involving Mill Hill FC, a member of the playing staff has been suspended indefinitely.

“The matter is now subject to an LFA investigation which Mill Hill FC will fully cooperate with.

“No further comment will be made on this subject until the conclusion of the LFA investigation.”

Mill Hill FC refused to comment further beyond their only statement posted on Saturday.

The Lancashire FA has said disciplinary cases and investigations are confidential matters, and any further announcements would be made on the LFA’s website or social media pages.

An LFA inquiry is also underway into another game between the Lord Raglan's Saturday side and Euro Garages FC. Off-the-ball incidents and racist language have been claimed by Euro Garages against their opponents.
