An amateur football club has shared footage of players being ‘hacked at’ and ‘punched’ in off the ball incidents at a game in Blackburn.

The club, made up of predominantly Asian players, called for more action to be taken by footballing authorities and the league in what was described as ‘thuggish behaviour’.

It was the opening game of the new season in the Blackburn and District Football Combination Red Rose Dry Lining Premier between Euro Garages (EG) and Lord Raglan, and took place at the Our Lady and St John Catholic College on Saturday, with the game eventually finishing 3-3.

EG FC said they are thankful the scenes were captured on the venue’s CCTV otherwise they feel their complaints would have "gone unheard".

The incidents refer to the Lord Raglan team that play on Saturday and not the Sunday league team which is a separate club and team.

The Lancashire Football Association (LFA) said the accusations were being investigated.

The Blackburn and District Football Combination said 'as volunteers they were proactive with clubs in monitoring behaviour and do their best to  work with clubs to eradicate this type of behaviour from the game'. The league also said it wished to highlight that it did not condone this type of behaviour.

A spokesperson for Lord Raglan said they would not comment until the LFA investigation had been completed.

In the first video shared by the club a Lord Raglan player can be seen hacking at an EG player in an off the ball incident, leaving him on the floor in pain.

In the second incident, following a late challenge on an EG player, a Lord Raglan player then kicks the ball with force at his opposition player, in view of the referee who is stood yards away.

A further incident shows an opposition player who was initially off the field running onto the pitch, approaching a Euro Garages player and appearing to punch him, before then running off the pitch and returning to the sideline.

In another disgusting off the ball incident a Lord Raglan player appears to stamp his opposition player in the back of the legs.

The club said that despite their protestations and complaints the incidents continued, with no action being taken by the match official.

It appears the incidents involved one player but this could not be confirmed.

They accused a player of using the term ‘P*** c***s’, an allegation the Lord Raglan team strongly denies.

The Euro Garages FC statement said: “The language used was abhorrent and has no place on a football pitch or in society.

"The words used were racially abusive, insulting and the players involved demonstrated hostility towards the Euro Garages players because of their racial group.”

Despite the incident, EG FC said their players did not walk off and were determined to finish the match.

The club is currently considering whether to continue playing in the league after the incident in the first match of the season.

The statement added: “During the game, Euro Garages did consider walking off the pitch but from experience we know that nothing is gained from this.

“It was either remain on the pitch and continue to be racially abused, bullied and assaulted by thuggish behaviour, or walk off and forfeit the game.

“All the players, management at Euro Garages FC and community are very angry, sad and shocked at the behaviour. Women and children were present who were all shocked with what they had witnessed.

“As a club, we are in the process of deciding whether we are going to continue playing football in the Blackburn and District Football Combination as this is not the first time our players have been racially abused or physically assaulted.

“Our confidence in the league committee is being challenged, no positive action was taken when incidents similar to the above were reported and teams are allowed to continue to get away with it.

“There is a serious risk to discouraging young people from playing the game they truly love.”

The Lancashire Football Association said in a statement: “We are aware of comments and videos on social media relating to incidents during a Blackburn and District Football Combination league match.

"We will investigate the matter thoroughly and await further information from match officials and all concerned.”

A Lord Raglan statement said: “At this moment in time Lord Raglan FC can't comment on an ongoing investigation by the LFA, but we will be doing everything we can to assist them in the matter.”

A Blackburn and District Football Combination statement read: "The league was made aware of incidents after it was posted on social media, and we were tagged into the post.

"We were contacted by a member of Euro Garages who advised us it had been reported  to the Lancashire Football Association.

"We wish to highlight that we do not condone this type of behaviour and constantly  remind our club members of the expected conduct in line with the FA RESPECT  campaign.

"As volunteers we are proactive with clubs in monitoring behaviour and do our best to  work with clubs to eradicate this type of behaviour from the game.

"In a statement we issued to clubs yesterday, we highlighted that ALL misconduct of  alleged serious foul play, Racial and discrimination remarks fall under the County FA as  per FA Rule and Regulations. Therefore, we are not permitted to adjudicate on these  matters as it falls above our jurisdiction.

"This is the first incident of this nature we have had in the three previous seasons."

The BAME Football Forum said they were "appalled" by the "horrific footage and the level of hate" displayed in the footage.

A statement said: “Football is a game for all and we have a role in making it better for the next generation but our processes must allow for this change to take place.”

Meanwhile, Lord Raglan, who play in the Sunday league released a statement after being wrongly tagged into posts.

The club said: “We are a Sunday team and have zero ties with the Saturday team. Not one crossover in regards to players, backroom staff or management.

“We don’t condone any of the actions on the videos and there is no room for that behaviour. Anything else we can’t comment on as we were not there.

“We have maintained a clean image through the time we have been formed and will continue to do that with our actions on and off the pitch.”
