HALLOWEEN is just around the corner and many Lancashire farms and businesses are getting ready to welcome customers back to their pumpkin patches.

While Halloween is at the end of October, many businesses open their pumpkin farms to families from the start of the month.

The events always prove to be popular so make sure to get your tickets as soon as possible.

Here are some of the most popular pumpkin picking events in the North West:


1. Pumpkin Alley Pick Your Own Pumpkins, Ormskirk, L397JJ
Price: £6 entry (which includes the price of a pumpkin) and additional pumpkins are £5 each
Dates: 1 October- 31 October

Included in the entry fee is a free pumpkin, face painting, beat the scarecrow penalty shootout, off your gourd (gourd shy), hay bale play area and use of wheelbarrows.

Friendly dogs on a lead are welcome.

2. Mrs Dowsons Farm Park, Clayton-le-Dale, BB2 7JA
Price: Entry - £9.95 and kids under 12 months go free (includes the price of farm park admission and cost of pumpkin is included in the price)
Dates: 16 & 17 October and 23-31 October

This is a full family day out and vistors can do more than just choose from 12 varieties of pumpkin; they can interact with scarecrow actors and visit the on site farm.

3. Windmill Animal Farm, Fish Lane, Burscough
Prices start at £15.95 per person
Dates: 9-31 October

The website reads: “Farmer Chris has planted over 20,000 plants in our pumpkin fields, and they will be ready for your Halloween harvest this October. 

“Each ticket includes a full day admission to Windmill Animal Farm and access to the famous Pumpkin Picking Adventure, where all visitors get to pick their own pumpkin from the fields that they are grown in.

“You are welcome to access our pumpkin field at anytime throughout your visit. One pumpkin per ticket is included. You are welcome to purchase more pumpkins on the day.”

4. Farmer Ted’s Pumpkin Festival 2021, Flatmans Lane, Ormskirk
Adults from £11.50 and children from £15.50
Dates: 2-31 October (various dates)

There are lots of spooky activities to keep your little terrors entertained, including:

  • Farmer Ted's Ghost Hunter's paintball experience
  • Free Pumpkin Picking in Farmer Teds Pumpkin Patch
  • Fairground Rides (£3 a go - selected dates)
  • Spooky Ghost Stories
  • Fancy Dress Competitions

5. Kenyon Hall Farm, Croft, Warrington
£2 entry
Dates: 1-31 October

Their website reads: “Our 2021 pumpkin picking season will run every day from 1st - 31st October and to ensure a safe and pleasant visit for all advanced bookings are essential.”

Ticket holders can look forward to:

  • Access to our outdoor pumpkin patch, with over 15,000 pumpkins grown this year.
  • Visiting our huge indoor display of ready-picked pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and colours.
  • Creating memories with our unique, pumpkin-tastic photo backdrops.

6. Dunham Massey Pumpkin Patch, Henshall Lane, Dunham Massey
Price: £ 5.62 per car
Dates: 23-31 October (various dates)

A spokesperson said: “Different varieties have been planted including traditional orange pumpkins,  gourds and knobbly pumpkins as well as last years very popular Ghost Rider Pumpkins!

“To make the experience even more magical, you will be able to pick the pumpkins straight from the vines where they have grown. We will have pre-cut them from the vine for ease.”

Greater Manchester

7. Roby Mill Pumpkin Patch, Johnsons Farm, Upholland, Wigan
Free entry and pumpkin prices start from £2
Dates: 9 October- 31 October (various dates)

A spokesperson said: “We have more choice of pumpkins and minikins than ever before and with prices starting at just £2, we’re sure you’ll find everything you need to make your Halloween 2021 the best one yet!

“Entry to the patch and car parking are FREE as always!

“Dogs are allowed on the patch providing that they are kept on a lead at ALL times and that any poo is picked up - we want the patch to be kept clean for everyone to enjoy!”

8. Smithills Open Farm, Smithills Dean Road, Bolton
£5 a pumpkin. Farm entry starts from £7.50
Dates: 16th and 17th October then 23 October- 31 October (various dates)

Halloween activities include spooky sweet hunt, farm staff in fancy dress, farm decorated for Halloween and a Children’s fancy dress competition

A spokesperson added: “Our pumpkin patch is in a field and woodland but can get muddy so wear your wellies and bring a brolly.

“Wheelbarrows are readily available for helping you carry your pumpkins back to your car.”

9. Cockfields Farm Park, Lees New Road, Ashton-under-Lyne
£17 for adults and children. Under 1s: £10 (with pumpkin, £3 without), Goody bag £13
Dates: Every weekend in October and every day from 23 – 31 October

From spooky dance parties to fairground adventures, there’s plenty to do at this pumpkin picking event.

A spokesperson said:” At Cockfields Farm we don’t just do a normal pumpkin picking we do it Cockfields Style.

“Grab a wheelbarrow and head onto the Pumpkin Patch and choose that perfect Pumpkin from the thousands on offer

“Take it to the Carving Cave and carve the spookiest or funniest face you can and leave the mess with us.”


10. Walby Farm Park, Carlisle, Cumbria
From £9.95 (includes farm entry and one free pumpkin to paying child.
Dates: 11-31 October.

Pumpkin carving, corn cannon, indoor & outdoor adventure play is also included in the price.
