PEOPLE in Lancashire are lucky enough to be surrounded by beauty spots and  scenic countryside areas.

It really is a walker’s paradise with innumerable walking routes right on our doorstep.

The weather is also meant to be glorious this weekend- which is the perfect excuse to get out the house and try out one of these walking routes.

Using Instagram, we have tracked down some of the most popular and picturesque photos under the Lancashire hashtag.

We have also found some walking routes in these ‘Instagrammable’ areas so you can snap your own picturesque images too.

Pendle Hill

Instagram user, biscuits_and_wanders postic a beautiful photo at the summit of Pendle Hill.

They wrote: “I’m so proud of this one today. He took on Pendle Hill via the steep steps route and completed a 5 mile circular route via the Ogden Reservoirs.

“After a well-deserved slushie we then did another 3 miles to the Sculpture Trail and back before heading home.

“The weather was gorgeous and the views were amazing. The ascent certainly got the heart rate up!”

The post has received more that 200 likes so far with people flooding the comments to praise the stunning view.

One person wrote: “Absolutely gorgeous!”

Another wrote: “Epic route for anyone, bravo!”

One Pendle Hill walking route can be found on the Lancashire walks website.

The classic circular route is targeted at people who want a relatively simple walk for those who want to ‘conquer’ Pendle.

It’s five miles long and it is estimated to take you around 2.5 hours.

It starts at the pay and pay car park in the centre of Barley. The walk takes you down the lane signed ‘Barley Green’, past Lower Ogden Reservoir and eventually takes you to the Pendle Hill summit.

Downham circular walk, Ribble Valley

Have you ever been to the village of Downham in Ribble Valley?

Posting to Instagram, this Instagram user wrote: “The main village road in Downham, not far from Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley.

“I do love it round here. I’m fairly certain there’s a really good walk or two to be had in and around Downham, I need to research it and commit.

“That’s Pendle Hill in the distance trying to photobomb.”

At the time of writing, the post has received 695 likes.

According to the Walking Englishman website, Downham has developed a reputation as being one of Lancashire’s prettiest villages.

This particular one is a 5.2 miles long and will take you between two and three hours.

Pendle Hill dominated the background throughout and walkers also cross over ‘Fairy Bridge’ and along becks and rivers.

The walk starts and ends in Downham and lets you walk through Downham and Worston Moor.

Denham Quarry, Chorley

Denham Quarry features a few times on Instagram’s top posts.

Instagram user, matts__journey, posted the above picture and wrote: “Bursts of gold on lavender melting into Saffron, it’s the time of day when the sky looks like it has been spray painted by a graffiti artist”

This route on All Trails is a 9.3km loop trail which starts at Denham Hill Quarry- specifically on Holt Lane near the start to Hough Hill.

It’s described as ‘moderate’ in difficulty and includes a few gradients and hills throughout.

You will need to negotiate several gates, kissing gates, footbridges, plank bridges and a multitude of stiles.

Allow three hours for the journey.

Spring Wood, Whalley, Clitheroe

Fancy a woodland walk?

This Instagram post was taken in Whalley and has received 156 likes on Instagram so far and was posted with the caption:
“Me and my big clown feet stomping around Whalley.”

It’s described as a “delightful woodland walk” through Spring Wood in Whalley; they are located close to Whalley railway station.

It’s only two miles long and there are a variety of waymarked areas to follow through the ancient woodland.

 There are twenty four different species of trees, wild garlic flowers, ponds and in the spring there are carpets of bluebells.

Darwen Moor

Would you believe that this gorgeous photo was taken in the Darwen Moors?

It has received 173 likes since being posted this week (9 June).

One Instagram user commented: “Beautiful picture”

Another wrote: “So beautiful! You make me see Darwen through a whole different lens.”

This walking route on alltrails.com encompasses Darwen Moors and Darwen Tower.

However, it’s not for the faint-hearted as it is 12.7km in total.

The route starts near the junction of the Belmont and Tockholes Road.

According to the walk description, it’s likely that notable fell walker, Alfred Wainwright, navigated these hills.

The description continued: “Ahead is the unmistakable outline of Darwen Tower, or more correctly Jubilee Tower, seen prominently from the M65.”
