Three East Lancashire towns have been named some of the worst places to live in England, but we think the areas are some of the best in the whole county.
Blackburn, Accrington and Burnley were ranked in the top 50 worst places to live in a 2021 survey by the satirical website, I Live Here, after a 'record-breaking' 125,681 people voted.
Coming in at 28th, 35th and 38th respectively, the East Lancashire towns managed to avoid the top 10, dodging a wholly unjust and undignified berating from the website's contributors, unlike nearby Halifax, whose female residents were given a proper dressing down: "The lovely ladies are not chatted up in this town, they totter out of the nightclubs legless and sh*g in an alleyway. A truly awful town."
Sitting above Blackburn, Burnley and Accrington though was Lancashire's famous seaside resort, Blackpool, which managed to earn itself a top 20 spot, coming in at 15th.
In 2019, Blackburn was branded 'a cross between Shameless and Star Wars' after coming-in at an undeserving tenth place in the league table of 'cr*p towns'.
Blackburn in top 10 on list of worst places to live in England
One person's scathing comments included the line: "Drug dealers, dole wasters, bums, guttersnipes, fallen women, young slappers and their steroid-pumped teenage boyfriends.
"It's a nightmare - a cross between Shameless and the Star Wars canteen."
Thankfully, no such comments were made about our beloved Blackburn this year, and just as well, because we love the town - it's got King George's Hall and the beautiful Witton Park, not to mention a great shopping precinct in the shape of The Mall.
We also love Burnley, the town which gave us the Singing Ringing Tree and Towneley Hall.
And as for Accrington, well, there's Oswaldtwistle Mills and Haworth Park, and of course, Accrington Stanley - so what's not to love?
With that said then, do you think Accrington, Blackburn and Burnley deserve a bad reputation?
Let us know what you love about the towns in the comments below.
