MK DONS boss Karl Robinson has described the Easter weekend as crucial in the League One promotion shake-up.

Robinson brings his Dons side to the County Ground tomorrow to take on Town. If Swindon get the win they could be just a point behind Preston and four in front of Robinson’s side. Crucially it would keep the Robins promotion hopes firmly in their own hands.

However the trip down the M4 to Bristol on Tuesday night makes a win on Saturday even more imperative.

For the Dons they host Scunthorpe on Tuesday, less of a challenge, but a chance to either extend their lead on Town following a win or repair some damage.

Whatever way you choose to cut it the Dons boss is not under-selling the two teams’ next pair of fixtures with his billing.

“Swindon have got a massive game on the Tuesday – away to Bristol City – it’s a massive Easter weekend for them,” Robinson told the Advertiser. “It’s a massive weekend for us too. We’ve got a big game away at Scunthorpe on Tuesday.

“I’m sure after those six points have been decided it will set the stall out for the last few games of the season.”

However large those stakes, especially with the added focus of the TV cameras, they are not resting heavy on Robinson.

His side are known for their attacking intentions and those will not be dimmed by the pressure to perform on Sky.

“They’re one of the only teams that will take the game to us,” Robinson added.

“The respect of that I have for the players, staff and fans at Swindon is phenomenal and I hope we can do the right thing.

“We’ll be going there to try and get the three points and we know Swindon will do their upmost to try and stop us.

“We’re excited by it. When you look at what the likes of what Swindon have done this year, I think Mark Cooper’s done one of the best jobs and is arguably one of the best managers in the league this year.

“The style and excitement with which Swindon play, it’s no coincidence it’s one the TV cameras have picked. It is arguably the two best footballing teams.

“You can’t say we are the best two teams – Bristol and Preston are better than us and the league says that at the moment.

“If you speak to the neutral they’d say it’s the two best footballing teams in the division going toe-to-toe, we’re excited by it.”

Spirits at the County Ground are expected to be heightened after an 18-day wait for a fixture and the quality of the opposition. Robinson, who was in the club’s youth set-up as a youngster knows not to expect an easy ride.

“I lived in Swindon for nearly three years and I know what the County Ground’s like,” he explained.

“It can be a bit intimidating when you go there, but we’re 100 per cent looking forward to it.

“It’s one of those games where we’re more excited about than nervous. As soon as the first ball gets kicked we’ll both be fully enjoying it.”

For those Swindon fans expecting to spared top prospect Delle Alli, who scored the winner in the reverse fixture, the Dons boss had some bad news: “Delle will be fit and he will start.”
