BOLTON School’s athletics teams impressed when taking on the best the town has to offer. 

After winning seven of their 11 events at the Bolton Town Athletics Championships at Leigh Sports Village, the Year 9 girls were crowned champions while the Year 10 team finished a creditable third. 

There was then double cause to celebrate a week later with the Year 7 and 8 teams bringing home age-group trophies. 

Several Year 9 girls became town champions in their respective events as the school saw their athletes break several records and return home with personal bests aplenty.

Poppy Donohue won the 200m, Lucy Dixon the 1,500m and Elizabeth Williamson the long jump and high jump events, setting a new town record of 5.15m in the former. 

Olivia Maguire also won the Year 9 discus and javelin, an event which saw her set a new town record of 32.45m. 

The relay team of Martha Halford, Alicia Backhouse, Caitlin Nuttall and Elizabeth Williamson also came out on top. 

The Year 7 team were first in their competition after wins in the relay, high jump and 800m. 

As for the Year 8 girls, they were also victorious in their relay and 800m events as well as the long jump.

Those athletes celebrated individual honours as well. 

Jade Sprott and Elena Bartalotta both won their 800m events, Ilham Nagi triumphed in the long lump, as did Pip Nuttall in the high jump. 

The relay triumphs came for Ilham Nagi, Blythe Cordwell, Jade Sprott, Ella Brophy in the 4x100m Year 8 relay while Anna Brennand, Pip Nuttall, Elena Bartalotta and Ogechi Umeadi won the the Year 7 event.
