Crawley boss Colin Kazim-Richards said he felt confident he could turn the club’s fortunes around after his side’s 3-2 home defeat against Shrewsbury.

A double from Josh Davison helped Shrewsbury come from an early goal down to clinch maximum points and leave Crawley rooted to the bottom of League Two, six points from safety.

The Red Devils, without a home league win in nearly seven months, have only taken one point from five home league games but Kazim-Richards was in defiant mood when asked about his future.

He said: “If I’m given time I definitely feel I can turn it around.”

Crawley fans called for Kazim-Richards to be sacked after the game and the former Brighton and Sheffield United forward added: “Fans are impulsive, fickle.

“Fans have been through hard times and it’s a continuation of that.”

Kazim-Richards, 40, insisted he did not feel like walking away and added: “At the moment we’re missing one or two (players) for sure.”

Kazim-Richards said he expected to speak to owner Raphael Khalili as he usually does, but that conversation had not yet happened.

Shrewsbury head coach Gavin Cowan felt his men had a “real chance” of going places after moving up to eighth, only outside the play-off places on goal difference.

He said: “We need to be professional enough to go to the next level and give ourselves a chance of going places.

“We are over the moon with this win, on cloud nine, and our second-half performance was our best display of the season.

“We were poor in the first 20 minutes but once the players got to grips with themselves they were excellent.”

Shrewsbury have now lost only one of their last seven league games and Cowan added: “Our goals were the icing on the cake and what a reaction it was in the second half.

“It showed how well connected we are and it was a really good step forward.”
