Jimmy McNulty insists he will not be dwelling on his Stockport side moving top of League One with a 2-0 win at Doncaster.

Goals from Mamadou Jobe and Kyle Wootton saw County claim a fourth successive win and third clean sheet of that run as they took top spot.

While encouraging supporters and players to enjoy the success so far, McNulty says his focus will remain on continuing the positive form having been delighted with the performance at Doncaster.

“I’m sure our fans are happy with that and the players will be too,” McNulty said. “I’m just very focused on this moment because I have to be.

“In terms of tonight’s performance, I was very happy with the play, diligence, commitment, execution. It was a very diligent performance from the team with high level commitment and concentration.

“We didn’t lose any kind of faith in what we were doing, even with a 0-0 scoreline at half-time.

“Being top of the league tonight is very good for everyone surrounding Stockport.

“For myself it’s nice but we’ll continue focusing on the work. It’s a marathon EFL season and we’re focusing on one at a time of course.

“But with the level of clout in this division and the clubs around us, for us to be around them alone, despite our recent successes as a football club, is still an incredible achievement for everyone involved.”

Doncaster manager Grant McCann is convinced Jobe should not have been on the pitch to score Stockport’s opening goal following an incident in the first half.

Jobe appeared to stand on the chest of McCann’s son Bayley after hurdling the Doncaster wing back but escaped without punishment.

McCann’s frustrations were compounded when Jobe fired County into a 53rd-minute lead to send them on their way to the win.

“I thought we were well in the game in the first half but there was a big incident where Jobe stood on Bayley,” McCann said. “It’s a straight red card.

“How the fourth official doesn’t see it, I’ll never know. I’ve got myself booked because of it, because I could see it and the whole stadium could.

“When you’re playing against one of the best teams in the division, who have certainly invested heavily in their squad, you need those decisions to go your way.

“I’m not putting any blame on the referee. I thought his performance was fine considering it was his first start in the EFL but he needs more from his fourth official.

“I’m disappointed with it because that could have given us a real chance if they go down to ten men. And it so happens he scores the first goal.”
