England bowler Brydon Carse has been charged with breaching the England and Wales Cricket Board’s professional conduct regulations following an incident at a Derby nightclub.

The charge, which follows an investigation by the Cricket Regulator, refers to events that took place on August 23 when Carse was handcuffed by officers after a celebratory night out with his Durham team-mates.

It was later confirmed he had been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly before being “de-arrested” after agreeing to depart.

Derbyshire Police had said they were investigating an alleged assault in connection with the incident but in September determined no further action would be taken.

The Cricket Regulator issued an update on Friday, revealing the matter will be now be referred to the independent Cricket Discipline Panel for adjudication.

A statement from the Cricket Regulator said: “Following a Cricket Regulator investigation, Brydon Carse has been charged with breaching regulation 3.2 of the ECB professional conduct regulations, in relation to events in Derby in the early hours of the morning on 23rd August 2026.

“The matter will now be referred to the independent Cricket Discipline Panel for adjudication.

“As the process is ongoing, no further comment will be made.”

Regulation 3.2 states that “no participant may conduct themself in a manner, do any act or make any omission at any time which is improper or which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the ECB, the game of cricket or any cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute”.

In the aftermath of the incident Carse was withdrawn from the England squad for the second Test against Pakistan.

The 31-year-old bowler was left out of the final Test match too and was not included in their white-ball series against Sri Lanka, which took place in September.

On Thursday, England announced their 16-player squad for an upcoming ODI tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which begins on October 20, and Carse was not included.

He continued to play for Durham during the summer and helped the side earn promotion as Rothesay County Championship Division Two champions, securing their spot in Division One next year.
