RAMSEY’S Ace Kickboxing Club have written a new chapter in to its success story.

For as one door closes another door opens.

The Blackburn club has moved from its long time home at Chadwick Street Mill off Bolton Road to a more central venue on Kings Street near the town centre.

Club owner, Sensei Paul Ramsey said the time was right to make the move - now he is hoping the kickboxing club will be able to add quantity to quality.

The club, that is now based above the Cellar Bar, has always punched above its weight and yet again underlined that fact by winning a clutch of medals at the World Championships that were held in Spain last November.

Ramsey is hoping to attract more members to the club to either compete or just train and the move has given him that option to expand.

“The time was right to move,” said Ramsey, who is a fifth dan. “The new premises is more central and gives us the chance to expand and get new members in.

“We have a permanent ring set up and all the equipment and machines so we are happy with the move.”

Ace Kickboxing Club certainly checked out of Chadwick Street Mill on a high after a ‘best ever’ medal haul at the World Championships where all nine youngsters returned with medals - seven of them as world champions.

“In all the years we have been going to the world championships, this is the best result we have had,” said Ramsey.

“We are a relatively small club and we are competing against some of the biggest clubs across the world with a lot more members than we have.

“So to go there and not only compete with them but come away with so many medals is a great achievement and we are all very proud.

“It takes a lot of effort for us to take part each year because we have to raise our own funds. So when everyone goes to so much effort just to get there, to do so well makes it all the more special.”

Ace Kickboxing won a total of 18 medals at the championships held just outside Benidorm with Harvey Rigby, Callum Barber, Rory Mahony, Damian Turner, Ibrahim Qadri, Ellie Thomas and Lewis Thomas all striking gold.

At seven-years-old, Harvey was the youngster of the squad while double champ Damian was the Ace in the pack. Harvey won a gold and a silver in the under 30kg class while 12-year-old Damian won two golds and a silver in his category.

Callum and Rory, both nine, won gold in the under 30kg and under 35kg weight categories respectively. Callum also won a silver and Rory picked up a bronze.

Ibrahim, 14, Ellie, 13 and Lewis, 16 also added silver medals to the gold medal winning performances.

Tyler Jones, nine, picked up two silvers in the under 35kg class while 14-year-old Jordan Murchie won a silver in the under 55kg class.

The club is renown for raising funds - not just to compete but also for good causes - but their next event is a lot closer to home.

For the club is hosting a white collar boxing event with proceeds going to pay for treatment for Karen Murchie, the mother of Jordan, who has cancer.

“We do a lot for charity and worthy causes but this one means a lot to us because it is for one of our own,” added Ramsey.

“We want to raise as much money as we can for Karen and are hoping local businesses can sponsor the event and make it as successful as we can.”

Tickets for the event, which will be held at the Cellar Bar, Kings Street, Blackburn on Saturday, March 24, are priced £25.
