PLEASINGTON’S Michael Hunt held off a spirited Anthony Harwood comeback to claim victory on the Harold Ryden Trophy at his home course last night.

Hunt looked in control when he went four up with five to play but Blackburn’s Harwood hit a hole in one at 16 before birdying 17 to cut the deficit to one heading up the 18th.

But the comeback fell just short and Hunt held on for the title Clitheroe’s Mark Ashworth saw his chances of reclaiming the title he last in 2013 ended at the semi-final stage when he was beaten 3&2 by Harwood.

Ashworth had earlier accounted for Accrington’s Ian Hardman in the quarter-finals while Harwood overcame the challenge of Nelson’s Shaun Field.

The other semi-final went the distance with Hunt just edging out Wilpshire’s Joey Lamb with a 1-up victory on the 18th green.

Lamb had got the better of Accrington’s Jason Ashworth in the last eight while 2001 winner Hunt came through against Shaw Hill’s Lewis Boyle. Defending champion Jonathan Hurst was not in the field.
