Blackburn Rovers stars showed they aren’t chicken when it comes to promoting the restaurants of bosses Venky’s.

A new 25-second advert has been produced showing first-teamers, including Ryan Nelsen, Paul Robinson, David Dunn and Morten Gamst Pedersen tucking into a pre-match meal of Venky’s chicken.

The clip, which will be used to promote the firm’s takeaway sector, was filmed in the Ewood Park dressing rooms and shows the players in a huddle.

The huddle breaks up as the players cross themselves to reveal a table full of chicken.

As they eat the chicken, Dunn is tricked out of his portion, first by Pedersen and then by Roberts.

Then the players are seen walking down the tunnel for kick off while Nelsen is still picking the chicken out of his teeth.

The advert closes with the Venky’s logo and the slogan ‘good for you’.

Dan Clough, of the Blackburn Rovers Supporters Trust, said: “They are the owners and have every right to use all their assets as part of their advertising campaign.

"But from a fan’s perspective it is pretty embarrassing.”

Two weeks ago, when the advert was filmed, Roberts tweeted an image from the shoot showing the Venky's logo on the Rovers shirts.

That prompted speculation the Venky's logo would remain for the season.

However, the club is believed to still be looking for a new shirt sponsor.
