Tony Mowbray says Darragh Lenihan won’t feature in the Carabao Cup tie against Oldham Athletic as 'investigations' in to his knee injury continue.

Lenihan missed the defeat at Fulham, with Mowbray revealing the Irishman felt ‘fluid in the back of his knee’.

The 25-year-old won’t be involved against the League Two side, but Ryan Nyambe will after overcoming concussion picked up in a behind closed doors friendly with Manchester United.

Nyambe could make his first appearance of the season having been an unused substitute for the opening day defeat to Charlton.

Mowbray said other members of his squad picked up knocks at Craven Cottage which could affect his selection, but revealed Harry Chapman will be in the squad.

“Ryan Nyambe is back available after concussion. We had to go through that six day rule of inactivity. He is back in contention,” Mowbray said of the Namibian international.

“Darragh won't be available.

“We picked up a few knocks at the weekend. It gives us an opportunity to rotate a little bit around and give some players who feel they should be playing an opportunity.

“It is a difficult one for the medical department and the boy. He has a bit of discomfort behind his knee yet the scans aren't showing anything too significant.

“We have to get to the core of what it is because how can we fix it if we don't know what's broken.

“It might just be as we decided on Friday to let it settle down over the weekend and see if it calms down.

“If it settles down with a bit of rest then he should be okay for the weekend, if not then obviously he won't be and we will need to keep the investigations going as to what the injury is.”

Greg Cunningham signed on deadline day from Cardiff City and travelled with the squad to Fulham.

He wasn’t included in the 18 man squad, but the full back should get his first run-out in Rovers colours against Oldham.

Mowbray added: “He is ready, he has done a pre-season and played games.

“He has fitted in very well with the squad and we are looking forward to getting him going.

“He can bring good quality, ball retention, he is aggressive and better in the air than you might think looking at him.

“He has some good qualities and needs to get started at some stage so why not this game on Tuesday and let's hope he does well and gives us a problem.”
