Blackpool have signed Joe Nuttall on a permanent deal from Rovers.

The striker has moved to the League One side for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal, with the option for a further 12 months.

There was significant interest in the 22-year-old from League One sides, with Blackpool winning the race for his signature.

Nuttall scored five times in five pre-season games, but hasn't featured for the first team since scoring the winning goal at Barrow last month.

His opportunities at Rovers, where he had two years left to run on his deal, were likely to be restricted following the arrival of Sam Gallagher this summer.

Nuttall arrived on trial in the summer of 2017 and was top scorer in Premier League 2 football in 2017/18.

He leaves Rovers with eight goals in all competitions.

On signing for Blackpool, he said: “I think I’m at the point in my career where I need to play as regularly as I can. That’s what I’d like to come here and do. Obviously it’s not a given, I’ve got to work hard and earn that position, and that’s the plan, to fight and earn a starting position in this team.

“The new owner has come in and you can see already around the stadium the improvements he’s making. The manager was another huge part of my decision because he’s watched a lot of my games. That was the biggest motivation for me to come, to work with the manager.”

Blackpool boss Simon Grayson has watched Nuttall at close quarters on a number of occasions, with son Joe having been a team-mate of the striker's for Rovers Under-23s.

He told his club's website: “I’ve watched a lot of Joe playing for Blackburn’s under-23s and also for the first-team. His goalscoring record for the under-23s is outstanding. He’s a strong, powerful striker who wants to learn and get better.

"This is a great short and long-term acquisition and we’re delighted to have signed him.”
