Tony Mowbray hasn’t ruled out more transfer business at Ewood Park, in or out, before the window closes on August 8.

Rovers made Tosin Adarabioyo their fifth summer signing on Wednesday but could still add another defender to their squad.

Christian Walton arrived on loan from Brighton last week but another goalkeeper is also a possibility so youngster Andrew Fisher can leave on loan.

Mowbray is happy with the attacking options at his disposal, with Sam Gallagher brought in for £5m, as well as the competition in central midfield and out wide.

Joe Nuttall is expected to seal a move to Blackpool, while Mowbray didn’t rule out more departures given the likelihood of several senior faces not making the matchday squad.

“We hope not,” Mowbray said of whether his business was now finished.

“I do sit here pretty relaxed and calm about the squad, the attacking options we’ve got are solid, we’ve got competition for places in central midfield and players who can play out wide as well as well as behind the striker.

“Defensively, do we need another one? We’ll look, but only if it’s the right one who will bring some versatility.

“Yet I do feel that Derrick Williams is versatile around the full back areas and central defence, Ryan Nyambe played all three games in the Africa Cup of Nations at centre half so there’s versatility with him.

“There’s competition with (Darragh) Lenihan, (Charlie) Mulgrew and Tosin, and both Ryan and Derrick can play inside, so defensively we’re fine, but we’ll decide whether the right player comes along and we want to add some more competition.

“The transfer window is always madness in the last day or two.”

Rovers were always in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, a search intensified by the sale over David Raya to Brentford.

Jayson Leutwiler saw the one-year option in his contract triggered, and the arrival of Walton leaves Rovers with two senior goalkeepers.

However, Mowbray would like to see another come through the door so to allow 21-year-old to gain experience out on loan.

While Rovers have until 5pm next Thursday to make permanent, and loan, additions, the window for loan signings for EFL clubs runs until August 31.

“Goalkeeping situation, only if the right one becomes available” Mowbray added.

“Fisher, in my opinion, should be going out on loan, if he can.

“Only one goalkeeper plays, so it’s difficult to get a guarantee, and I would never ask, that he goes somewhere and plays every week.

“To develop his career I do feel he needs to go and play and if he does, then we’ll probably look to bring in another one.”

Given the five summer signings, and impressive displays in pre-season from several young players, competition is fierce to try and break in to the 18-man matchday squad.

While Rovers aren’t actively looking to move players on, Mowbray says a situation could arise that may see more departures.

“They might do if the phone rings and it is the right thing to do then it might happen,” the boss added.

“Some senior players are not going to make the 18 this week, I have tried to prepare them all for that and let players know where I think they are in the squad but I don't boot my players out or cast them aside and throw them over with the kids.

“As long as they work hard and they are part of our group then I allow them to keep training with us but some of them know it will be difficult for them this year.”
