Christian Walton has signed for Rovers on a season-long loan from Premier League side Brighton.

The goalkeeper is the club’s fourth summer signing following on from Stewart Downing, Bradley Johnson and Sam Gallagher.

Rovers have beaten off several Championship clubs to secure the signature of Walton for the 2019/20 season.

Rovers have been in the market for a new 'keeper since David Raya, who played 41 times last season, left for Brentford earlier this month.

Boss Tony Mowbray is also in the market for a more experienced stopper to strengthen the goalkeeping department.

Former England youth international Walton has spent the last two seasons with Wigan Athletic, playing 35 times in their League One promotion campaign and then 34 times in 2018/19.

The 23-year-old has amassed over 100 career appearances across six separate loan spells, with four coming for parent club Brighton.

Walton began his career with Plymouth before moving to Brighton in 2013. He has represented England at Under-19, 20 and 21 level and has two years left to run on the four-year deal he signed in 2017 before his first loan spell at Wigan.
