Bryan Douglas enjoyed a trip down memory lane, as he paid a special visit to Springhill Care Home in Accrington.

The Rovers legend visited the facility as a goodwill gesture after some of the residents came to one of the club’s home matches last season.

‘Dougie’, who made over 500 appearances for the club and earned 36 England caps, shared stories and amusing anecdotes from his distinguished career, much to the delight of the residents and staff.

The former winger, who was presented with a blue-and-white cake, posed for photos, signed autographs and was pleased to put a some smiles on the Rovers – and Burnley – supporters’ faces.

Douglas, who celebrated his 85th birthday last month, said: “It wasn’t only a nice visit, it was also an enjoyable one.

“I met one or two Burnley supporters and I think I managed to win them round as well.

“It was nice to talk about some of the players I used to play with, both for Rovers and at international level, and it reminded me of my playing days.

“After speaking to the residents and the team at Springhill Care Home, I think they really appreciated my visit.”

Paige Duval, Activities Team Leader at Springhill Care Home, added: “A couple of our gentlemen recently attended one of the Rovers games and they all loved it, so we contacted the club and asked if Bryan could come down and pay all our residents a visit and we were thrilled when he said yes.

“I think Bryan's visit brought back fond sporting memories for everybody – really good memories of their childhood and of them taking their children to football matches throughout the years.

“Everyone really enjoyed Bryan visiting Springhill Care Home and we would like to thank him for taking time out to meet us.

"It was absolutely wonderful and Bryan has been an absolute diamond."
