Jacob Davenport is expected to be given his Rovers debut in this weekend’s final game against Swansea City.

Davenport has endured a frustrating first season at Ewood Park since arriving on a four year deal from Manchester City.

However, having built up his fitness during a string of outings for the Under-23s, including their win over Liverpool on Sunday, the 20-year-old could be given a run-out for the first team on Sunday.

Harry Chapman was given his chance against Norwich, while Tyler Magloire, John Buckley and Dan Butterworth are others to have been given opportunities by boss Tony Mowbray in recent weeks.

But Davenport’s wait could well soon be over, with Mowbray admitting the left-footer faces a big pre-season to force his way in to a more prominent role next term.

He said: “I will get Davenport out on the pitch at some point because he’s worked really, really hard to get fit after a really tough season for him,” the boss added.

“He’s played a lot of Under-23s games now and maybe this week is an opportunity for him to play first team football before he has a really hard summer.

“He’ll have to make sure he’s robust and ready, and then pre-season it’s up to him.

“He’ll need to make sure he gets in ahead of our other midfield players, but that’s the same for all of the players.”

Rovers host the Swans on the final day as they look to top the 60 point mark set by the boss.

They will need just a point to do that, but will have eyes on finishing as close to the top half as possible when they welcome Graham Potter’s side.

And Mowbray said: “We move onto the final game of the season at home to Swansea City in the hope we can win it.

“We try to win every game we play, but Swansea, like Norwich, are a good technical team who have some good players that are capable of keeping the ball.

“They also have some lightning fast centre-forwards who score bags of goals, so it’ll be a big test for us, but one we’ll be relishing while also being really positive in our mindset and game plan in the hope that we can end the season on a victory for the fans, in-front of, hopefully, a big crowd.”
