Paul Downing says he has given no thoughts as to his future with loan club Doncaster battling to secure a play-off spot.

The central defender is out of contract at Rovers this summer, though they do have a 12 month option in their favour on the deal Downing signed when joining permanently from MK Dons in January 2018.

He was loaned to Doncaster in January who are looking to secure a top six spot in League One.

Because of that, Downing hasn’t thought about where he will be playing his football next year with so much up in the air.

He told the Doncaster Free Press: “Definitely not. There is still a lot of focus left on the final games of the season.

“I’m sure my future will get decided on in the summer.

“I’m pretty calm about that and it’s important that we focus on the games we have left.

“And the people who deal with that can deal with it.

“I’ll just focus on the football.”

Downing has played 16 times for Grant McCann’s side since moving to the Keepmoat Stadium which was his main objective.

“I’ve loved it,” he said.

“I’ve played a lot of games which I wanted to do.

“I’ve had some good performances and good results.

“We’ve got good competition for places at centre half and all over the pitch which is a bonus because it keeps everyone making sure they’re performing.

“I’m looking forward to carrying it on until the end of the season and concentrate on putting in solid performances.”
