Harry Chapman will be part of the Rovers Under-23s side at Everton in their Premier League Cup tie tonight (7pm).

Chapman, a scorer in the win at Manchester City last time out, travelled to QPR on Good Friday with the first team, as did Jacob Davenport, but neither were selected in the matchday 18.

They also weren’t in the squad which beat Bolton 2-0 at Ewood Park on Monday and boss Tony Mowbray confirmed they are both likely starters for Damien Johnson’s side at Goodison Park in the quarter final tie, as is Joe Nuttall who came off the bench at QPR.

John Buckley and Dan Butterworth made their home and Championship debuts respectively as second half substitutes on Monday but will be among Johnson’s squad who will look to book their place in the last four where Swansea City await.

Rovers face a tough assessment at an Everton side who are looking to add to their league title which they won earlier this month.

But there would be no better time for Rovers to find their first victory against the Premier League 2 champions, having lost two and drawn the other two in their league and cup meetings so far.

However, Rovers will be buoyed by their recent form, having reached this stage of the competition with an impressive 3-1 win at Stoke City, one of 12 in their last 16 matches.

Mowbray said: “I think those five will be involved. It’s at Goodison and it’ll be great for them to play in a lovely football arena. It’s something they should look forward to.

“They’ve had tough games against Everton this season, but our talented Under-23s will go there strong.”

The other semi-final sees Leeds United take on Newcastle United, meaning Rovers are the second highest ranked of the six teams left in the competition.

Rovers round off their Premier League 2 campaign at Liverpool on Monday, April 29 before their Lancashire Senior Cup final date with Burnley on Tuesday, May 7 which will be played at the Lancashire FA headquarters in Leyland.
