If Rovers finished 17th, would you view that as a good season overall, or disappointing given where they were in January?

If I was an optimist and thought Rovers would finish where they currently are, or above, I would still be disappointed and frustrated because the team has been hampered by a woeful defence that should and could have been strengthened.

The nonsense of blaming injuries is infuriating as these “key” players did little to stop the flow of opposition goals in away matches all season.

The midfield and attack has been demoralised by their lack of confidence in their teammates. Mr Mowbray now acknowledges what the rest of us have known all season.

At the beginning of the season I wouldn’t have grumbled at our current position in the league.

That being said, after what was a fantastic January, getting to within a couple points of the play-offs, I am disappointed at how badly we have done since. While the play-offs were always a long shot, we were in a great position to put some pressure on those above us.

Our season has since fallen off, and there’s little to play for now.

We won’t go down, and we won’t go up. From my perspective, survival was the aim, we will comfortably achieve that. The job now is to put some groundwork in, so that we are ready and better prepared for next season.

Given where we were in January, of course it would be viewed as a disappointing season.

On the whole though it’s been a season of education. It’s enabled the management team to see our strengths and our needs for next season.

At our best we’ve competed with the top teams in the league and at our worst, we’ve capitulated.

No manager can tell the future but I believe Tony Mowbray is perceptive enough to identify the problems and solve them so I’m excited for the changes that will inevitably happen in pre-season and the future of the club.

To remain in the championship, finish above the other promoted teams and flirt with the play offs isn’t all that bad for our reintroduction to the Championship.
