Rovers reporter Rich Sharpe hands out his player ratings after the win over Wigan Athletic.

David Raya 8

More commanding off his line, and looked secure under the high ball. Made one excellent save from Windass in the second half. Can be excused a couple of poor kicks for the one beauty of a long ball which assisted Graham’s second of the night.

Ryan Nyambe 8

Not always the prettiest in the way he goes about his work, but was very effective. Saved a certain goal when blocking Garner’s six yard effort just after Rovers made it 2-0. Still work to do on his heading, but brings plenty to the team.

Tyler Magloire 8

Huge ovation for the 20-year-old on his debut. Stood up to the intensity of Joe Garner and looked solid for the most part. Blocked two shots and used his physicality well.

Derrick Williams 7

Cleared his lines well, but was poor in possession, completing just half of his attempted passes. Fired wide from a promising position late on. Booked for a poor tackle on Powell.

Elliott Bennett 8

Six clearances and two interceptions as the captain for the night returned to form. Defensively he stood up well, both at right and left wing back. Tempered his attacking instincts to put in a determined display.

Harrison Reed 7

Won the penalty when caught by the high boot of James. His influence on the game grew as it went on in a more disciplined central midfield performance than we have seen previously.

Lewis Travis 8

An excellent second half in which he won all four of his tackles, while his pressing allowed Rovers to get on the front foot. Thundered in to a couple of 50-50s which got the crowd up. Can’t expect to be dropped to the bench any time soon.

Amari’i Bell 5

Was knocked off the ball too easily which saw him sustain a knock to the back. Now an injury doubt for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

Bradley Dack 8

Some excellent bits of skill early on made you feel it might be his day, but it didn’t seem that way after being denied by Jones and firing over from promising positions in the first half. Missed an excellent chance moments before his perseverance paid off by capitalising on a defensive mistake. Appeared to enjoy himself in the closing stages.

Adam Armstrong 5

Doesn’t look as comfortable in the more central areas and his first touch was found wanting at times. Not given the ball in good enough positions to really stretch Wigan.

Danny Graham 8

Made two vital defensive clearances before stepping up to score from the spot, his 50th for the club. Showed great instincts to run on to a long boot forward from Raya to turn in his second. Forced off with a knock just after the hour mark.

Subs

Craig Conway (for Bell, 25) 7

Used in an unfamiliar wing back role and filled in well for his team.

Joe Nuttall (for Graham, 63) 6

Shot tamely at Jones when finding himself free on the left edge of the box, and ran the ball out of play when clear down the right moments before.

Joe Rothwell (for Armstrong, 64) 7

Breathed life in to Rovers after coming on, and showed some excellent link up play with Dack which should have seen him score moments before he did.
