Ben Brereton will be on the bench for this weekend’s game with Preston, but Harry Chapman and Jacob Davenport won’t be considered for first team involvement yet.

Brereton made it three goals in two Under-23s game when scoring in the 3-1 win at West Ham United on Monday.

Davenport, playing his eighth match for the Under-23s, came through 90 minutes, while in his third appearance for Damien Johnson’s side, Harry Chapman played the full game.

The two aren’t being considered yet for first team duty however, with 20-year-old Davenport having not trained following Monday’s game after taking a knock.

“Brereton will be on the bench as he has been recently. I have had a good chat with him recently,” Mowbray said of the teenager who has been an unused substitutes in the last two matches.

“He’s a young boy with amazing talent, we have to be patient

“He has to bide his time and be patient, his time will come.

“Jacob actually got a kick in the West Ham game and hasn’t trained the last couple of days.

“He’s not in consideration anyway because he’s been out too long.

“We’ll let him play another game or two and see if he can get back in our squad.

“Harry is the same as Jacob really, that was his first 90 minutes in a long, long time.

“He’s still a bit short in my opinion of where he needs to be. But I would be hopeful that before the end of the season he’s able to get himself in to a position where he can get on the bench and maybe get some game-time for us.

“I have seen his Under-23s games, he’s working hard, I see him working after training with the sports science department doing extra running and building up his robustness to survive games.

“Under-23s football is a lot different to what he will come up against in the Championship so we have to make sure we are not in a rush to get Harry Chapman back on the pitch and within the first 20 minutes he’s out for another six months.

“Let’s do the right thing by the kid, let’s give him some games, let him feel as though his body is strong and powerful and when it’s right we’ll stick him on the bench and see if he can change a game in the last 20 minutes or so.”
