Rovers youngster Ben Paton has signed a new contract with the club – and is setting his sights on progressing to the first team.

The Canadian youth international has put pen-to-paper on a deal which will keep him at Ewood Park until June 2020.

A versatile footballer, Paton is able to play in central midfield or on the left-hand side of defence or midfield, and has become a regular for Damien Johnson’s Under-23s side of late.

Paton, who scored a free kick in the win over Leicester earlier this month, joined Rovers at the age of 15 and is looking forward to continuing his progress at the club.

"I'm buzzing," said the 18-year-old.

"I love the club and I love playing every day - getting to do what you love to do every single day - and I'm just happy to continue it.

"The club is so welcoming and they're always there for you. The positive environment and professional attitude that everyone has is what makes it such a great club.

"The standard in training and in games is amazing and it's great to be part of the (Under-23s) group.

"I feel like we've done well this season to compete with all the top clubs in the country and get results.

"Everyone's goal here is to try and get into the first team and do well under the manager, and I'm no different.

"I've had a few ups and downs this season with injuries, but hopefully good things will happen in the future."
