Tony Mowbray and Adam Armstrong have been nominated for the Championship manager and player of the month awards respectively for January.

Mowbray led Rovers to four wins from four league games last month, keeping three clean sheets on the way.

Armstrong was instrumental in that run, scoring twice and chalking up four assists, in a fine start to 2019.

Mowbray, a 10-time manager of the month winner, is nominated for the second time this season, after being shortlisted in August.

The panel said of him: “A perfect start to 2019 for his team who climbed to within three points of the play-off places with a maximum 12 points from four games.

“They attacked with verve, while Mowbray’s decision to move Jack Rodwell into central defence looks inspired.”

The Rovers boss is shortlisted alongside Thomas Frank (Brentford), Lee Johnson (Bristol City) and Graham Potter (Swansea).

Johnson, whose side are at Ewood Park on Saturday, is the only manager who had a 100 per cent record from last month, but the Robins played one less Championship match.

Armstrong meanwhile has been in sparkling form for Rovers, also scoring in the FA Cup third round replay with Newcastle.

The panel said of the 21-year-old: “Two goals, four assists and a penalty won made it quite a month for Armstrong for whom the wide role behind Danny Graham seems a perfect fit.

“Able to use his pace at will, his vision to pick out a pass which has been equally impressive.”

Also nominated are Tammy Abraham (Aston Villa), Kamil Grosicki (Hull) and Oli McBurnie (Swansea).

The winners of the respective awards will be announced at 6am tomorrow.
