Willem Tomlinson has signed for League Two Mansfield Town after leaving Rovers.

The 21-year-old saw his deal expire at Ewood Park in the summer and his relase allowed him to find a new club outside of the transfer window.

The central midfield has signed an 18 month deal with the Stags.

Tomlinson had been expected to join League Two Exeter City who he had trained with in December. The midfield made 10 appearances in all competitions for Rovers, the last of those being in the Carabao Cup win over Lincoln City in August.

Tomlinson made his Rovers debut in the FA Cup fifth round defeat to Manchester United in February 2017, before featuring in the Championship win over Derby under Tony Mowbray.

Writing on social media after leaving Rovers, he said: “After an amazing 10 years at Rovers I am leaving the club.

“I would like to thank the club, staff and fans for all the support they have given me over the 10 years – I have learned a lot and together created some unforgettable memories.

“I am now looking forward to the next stage of my career and can’t wait to get going.”
