Corry Evans believes Tony Mowbray’s policy of giving Rovers’ senior players an input in to first team matters can only be beneficial.

Rovers have won all three league games in 2019 having ended last year with three consecutive defeats.

Mowbray has spoken of how he includes the club’s experienced players in decisions on how the team play, something Evans believes helps provide clarity on what the manager wants on the pitch.

The 28-year-old has been pleased with the turnaround in fortunes, with Rovers moving back in to the top half of the Championship.

“We debrief every game. We were disappointed with some of the goals we conceded in the period over Christmas,” he said.

“The manager likes to discuss things with the players and the players have an input.

“We went through certain things, where we conceded goals and how we could shore up the defence a little bit.

“We have kept two clean sheets on the bounce and that will breed confidence.”

Evans, Rovers’ longest serving senior player after signing from Hull in 2013, feels everyone at the club is pushing in the same direction in a bid to improve.

The Northern Ireland international said in his experience Mowbray’s approach is a unique one in club football, but feels that everything done at Rovers is with a view to giving the players the best possible chance to win three points.

“It’s my first experience of it in club football,” he said of the player involvement.

“It’s good, all the players buy in to it and we all want to work towards getting better and moving in the right direction.

“The analysts work hard with the manager to pick out key moments in games, things we could have done better and things we did well.

“We do that openly as a team and it only makes the picture clearer going on to the pitch to put the things we’ve talked about in to place.”

Rovers have enjoyed a good start to 2019, with nine points from three games. But this weekend’s visitors, Hull City, are the form team of the division, with five wins in their last six matches, and have been beaten just once in their last 14 Championship games.

That has seen Evans’ former club move from just above the relegation places, to the fringes of the play-offs, arriving in East Lancashire in eighth.

Evans said: “We have the confidence of winning three games on the bounce and now have a big game against Hull City.

“They are on a good run themselves and it will be a big test for us.

“We have to take the game to them and try and make it four on the bounce.”

Meanwhile, Paul Downing is expected to seal  a move to a League One club today.

The 27-year-old had been set to leave earlier in the window on a permanent move, but the defender is now more likely to leave on loan.

Downing has featured just four times for the Rovers first team this season, three of those in the Championship.

He played 90 minutes for Rovers Under-23s on Monday in a Premier League Cup win over Sheffield United to maintain his fitness after a spell out with illness.

Downing signed for Rovers on a permanent deal last January after initially arriving on loan from MK Dons.

He played 30 times last season to help achieve promotion back to the Championship.Â
