Scott Wharton has joined League Two side Bury on loan after being recalled from his spell at Lincoln City.

The Rovers youngster saw his season-long spell with the Imps cut short to allow him to join fellow promotion-chasers Bury.

Wharton, who has made six first team appearances for Rovers and penned a long-term contract last summer, was on the radar of the Shakers last summer, only to re-join Lincoln where he spent the final months of last season.

This is his fourth separate loan move in League Two, after spending time with Cambridge United in the final months of the 2016/17 season.

Wharton played 16 times for the Imps this season, but just five of those came as from the start in League Two and fellow further down the pecking order after the arrival of Cian Bolger from Fleetwood.

He will hope for more appearances with Bury who currently sit second in the table, six points behind Lincoln, having played a game more.

For Shakers boss Ryan Lowe, the move was worth the wait.

He told his club’s website: “I'm happy to have signed Scott on loan until end of the season.

“Scott is someone we were interested in at the start of season, but he opted to go back to Lincoln on loan where he was the season before.

“He is a good left-sided defender and gives us great depth in our squad down the left side, but most importantly he is a good lad who wants to be a part of what we're trying to do.”
