Rovers youngster Ollie Byrne has joined League Two side Stevenage on loan until the end of the season.

The move will be his first taste of the Football League having previously been loaned to non-league side Bamber Bridge earlier in the season.

The 21-year-old also spent time at Chorley while at former club Cardiff City before joining Rovers in February.

Byrne, whose deal at Ewood Park expires this summer, has played three times for Rovers Under-23s in Premier League 2 this season, having been the understudy to Andrew Fisher. He is yet to feature for the first team, but did travel with the squad to September's win at Stoke City.

Fisher also has loan interest this month, but the decision to allow Byrne to leave, could see him now remain at Ewood Park for the remainder of the season.

Byrne’s career has seen him spend time at Liverpool and Manchester United, before his two years with Cardiff City.

He joins a Stevenage side currently 10th in League Two, three points outside of the play-off spots with 18 games remaining.

Byrne will challenge with Paul Farman for the No.1 spot at Broadhall Way.
