LEWIS Travis is keen to kick on and earn a regular first team place at Rovers having penned a new contract.

The young midfielder has signed a new deal until the summer of 2021.

The 20-year-old follows in the footsteps of goalkeeper David Raya and striker Joe Nuttall in agreeing fresh terms with Rovers.

And Travis, who can also play at full back, is delighted to secure his future at the club.

He said: “It’s always good to commit your future to a club you really want to play for. It’s what I’ve been working for. I’ve wanted a new deal and I’m delighted it’s come.

“We’re doing well in the Under-23s where we are top of the league and the first team is second at the moment so it’s always good to come on and help the team.

“You always set goals. My main one was to be involved, training everyday with the first team and to get minutes in the first team as well. I’ve got more than that in terms of game time so I have probably surpassed that aim.

“I’ve played in a couple of Checkatrade Trophy games and got half an hour against Hull in the FA Cup when Corry [Evans] picked up an injury and I think that display maybe stuck in the gaffer’s mind.

“When you come on for the first team you always want to do well and impress. I like to think I did that.

“You want to impress the gaffer as much as you can. When he talks about you highly it’s really nice. I want to push myself ahead now."

Travis joined Rovers from Liverpool in December 2014 and has impressed for Damien Johnson's Under-23 side this season.

He made his senior debut in the Checkatrade Trophy victory over Stoke City in August and has gone on to make six further first team appearances, including two in the league.
